Paso Robles is a unique wine region blessed with optimal growing conditions for producing premium and ultra premium wines: greater day-to-night temperature swings than any other appellation in California, distinct micro-climates, diverse soils and a long growing season. As a result, more than 40 wine grape varieties are grown in Paso Robles, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne, and Zinfandel, the area’s heritage wine varietal. Housing: Paso Robles has among the most affordable housing in San Luis Obispo County.

Economic Development Strategy: A City policy to encourage manufacturing, tourism, retail sales and housing, plus facilitating the development review process. The Economic Development Strategy sets forth the goals, objectives and program in each of these areas.

Economic Development Team: Each Monday afternoon, staff representatives of Planning, Engineering, Building, and Emergency Services provide pre-application review for new developments. This no fee review is designed to identify issues or challenges that may be associated with a development project and provides applicants with an opportunity to find design solutions. The Economic Development Team is committed to facilitating the development review process.

Economic Vitality Corporation (San Luis Obispo)
The Economic Vitality Corporation (EVC) is the primary economic development agency for San Luis Obispo County and each of it's cities including Paso Robles.  The EVC assists local and relocating companies with a variety of business resources and services including business attraction and creation; business retention and expansion; site location, commercial property acquisition, and building permits; international trade and import and export issues through a private in-house consultant and the BuyUSA trade program; business financial assistance and loans; a unique trailing spouse job network; and special economic gardening practices.  Visit their web site at www.sloevc.org/.

Paso Robles Redevelopment Agency: On June 29, 2011 as part of the 2011-12 State budget bill, the California Legislature enacted, and the Governor signed, AB 1X 26, which dissolved all redevelopment agencies in the State of California. Pursuant to AB 1X 26, a seven-member Oversight Board to the Successor Agency was formed to oversee the Successor Agency’s activities to wind down Redevelopment operations. Paso Robles Main Street Program: An award winning program, Main Street fosters business expansion and development in the downtown area. Through a four-point approach (Organization, Design, Promotion and Economic Restructuring), Main Street helps insure the economic vitality of Downtown Paso Robles. Downtown Development Opportunities: Preservation and expansion of the downtown area is a City priority identified in the General Plan, Redevelopment Plan, and Economic Development Strategy. It finds implementation in the policies of both the Planning Commission and City Council. Among the incentives for downtown development are preferential off-street parking requirements, funding through the Community Development Block Grant Program for health and safety improvements, and City capital projects designed to encourage downtown investments. Airport Area Commercial and Industrial Development: Development opportunities surround the Paso Robles Municipal Airport. With one of the best weather patterns and exceptional physical facilities (main runway 6,000 feet and planned for further expansion) and a new Regional Air Terminal, the City's Airport provides a convenient resource for business development.
