This is a non-sworn, training level classification in the Police Department. Recruits do not have police officer powers or authority. Incumbents will assume non-sworn duties within the department and attend a P.O.S.T. Certified Academy, which is approximately 6 months in length.

Police Officer (Lateral)
Under general supervision and in cooperation with the community, perform law enforcement and crime prevention work to provide for the safety of the public. Applicants must have successfully completed probation with a state police agency; must be either currently employed or employed within the previous 18 months as a peace officer by a state police agency; must have at least three years of experience including one year of "street" experience with a municipality, Sheriff's Office or equivalent.

Under general supervision, incumbent is responsible for specific support activities for day-to-day library services. Positions for the Library are at the circulation desk, Library Study Center, reference desk and children's area. Evening and weekend hours may be required. This position can generally expect 16-18 hours per week.
