Battalion Chief

Under general supervision of the Emergency Services Chief, incumbents are assigned to a non-exempt, 56-hour work week. Battalion Chiefs supervise, plan, assign, direct and coordinate both emergency and non-emergency activities for an assigned shift; command emergency response scenes, EMS at the paramedic level, rescue, hazardous material response, fire suppression activities, fire prevention, as well as public education activities. Incumbents develop and implement multiple level training programs for department personnel; coordinate assigned activities with other City departments, outside agencies and the general public; actively monitor and resolve issues regarding staffing, personnel needs, and subordinate performance; develop, present, and monitor budget. May serve as the Acting Emergency Services Chief in his/her absence. The Battalion Chief position provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Emergency Services Chief.

Fire Prevention Specialist I/II

Under general supervision, this non-sworn position oversees the review and approval of project plans to determine satisfactory compliance with applicable fire codes, laws, and ordinances; reviews fire protection and suppression systems to ensure compliance with appropriate standards; acts as a resource to others regarding Fire Department requirements; performs field inspections and investigations. This job class requires in-depth knowledge of applicable building and fire codes and the ability to effectively apply code requirements.

This is a non-sworn, training level classification in the Police Department. Recruits do not have police officer powers or authority. Incumbents will assume non-sworn duties within the department and attend a P.O.S.T. Certified Academy, which is approximately 6 months in length.

Under general supervision and in cooperation with the community, perform law enforcement and crime prevention work to provide for the safety of the public. Applicants must have successfully completed probation with a state police agency; must be either currently employed or employed within the previous 18 months as a peace officer by a state police agency; must have at least three years of experience including one year of "street" experience with a municipality, Sheriff's Office or equivalent.
