Police Officer Recruit

This is a non-sworn, training level classification in the Police Department. Recruits do not have police officer powers or authority. Incumbents will assume non-sworn duties within the department and attend the P.O.S.T. Certified Basic Academy in Lompoc, California (scheduled to begin in January of 2018), which is approximately 6 months in length. Upon graduation and award of the Academy Basic Certificate, the incumbent may be appointed to and sworn in as a Police Officer.

Under general supervision and in cooperation with the community, perform law enforcement and crime prevention work to provide for the safety of the public. Applicants must have successfully completed probation with a state police agency; must be either currently employed or employed within the previous 18 months as a peace officer by a state police agency; must have at least three years of experience including one year of "street" experience with a municipality, Sheriff's Office or equivalent.
