Elections

The City of Paso Robles holds its general municipal election on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years, the same day as the statewide general election.  General Elections results may be found on the County Clerk Recorder web site.

The City of Paso Robles conducted a virtual Candidate Briefing to educate City Council candidates and residents about the services provided by and operations within each City department.

The executive manager of each of the City’s 7 departments – Police, Fire, Public Works, Community Development, Community Services, Administrative Services and the City Manager’s Office, gave an overview of their department’s responsibilities and the operations of each of its divisions. 

2020 General Election

A Consolidated General Election will be held in the City of El Paso de Robles on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, for the following officers:

  • 1 member of the City Council from District 3 for a full term of four years
  • 1 member of the City Council from District 4 for a full term of four years
  • City Treasurer for a full term of four years

Eligibility requirements to run for office are:

  •     You must be a resident of the City of Paso Robles for at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of the election, and
  •     You must be  a registered voter in the City of Paso Robles.  
  •     Any candidate for city council must reside in, and be a registered voter in, the district in which he or she seeks election at the time nomination papers are issued. Any councilmember elected or appointed to the seat of a specific district must reside in that district and be a registered voter in that district for the full term of office.

Campaign Filing Requirements:    

  1. File a Candidate Intention Statement  FPPC Form 501. Prospective candidates can file their FPPC Form 501 anytime between now and the Nomination Period.
  2. Nomination:  To run for office you must first be nominated. Per Election Code 10407, the nomination filing period is July 13, 2020 (113th day before the election) through August 7, 2020. If an eligible incumbent does not file, there will be an extended filing period from August 8-12, 2020.  
  3. Nomination Paper Issuance: The Election Official (The City Clerk/Deputy City Clerk) is the only person authorized to furnish nomination papers. Due to COVID-19, appointments for Nomination issuance are required.  Please contact the Deputy City Clerk to make an appointment. Email -  mmartin@prcity.com or by phone at (805) 237-3888.
  4. After filing FPPC Form 501, should a candidate begin to campaign and raise funds he/or she must also file an originally signed FPPC Form 410 with the Secretary of State (copy of the form to be submitted to the Clerk’s office) within 10 days of receiving $2,000.  

Instructions for both forms are on the first page of each form. Please read the instructions carefully and thoroughly, and contact Melissa Martin, Deputy City Clerk – (805) 237-3888, mmartin@prcity.com .  Prospective candidates can mail their FPPC forms to City of Paso Robles, 1000 Spring Street, Paso Robles, CA 93446 or contact the Deputy City Clerk to set up a time to drop the forms off at City Hall due to the current guidelines for COVID-19.
