[ARCHIVED] City of Paso Robles Holding Building & Fire Code Public Workshop

Building Committee

PASO ROBLES, CA, August 5, 2019 – The Paso Robles Community Development Department is holding a Public Workshop to look at updates to the California Building Code and the Building Ordinance of the City’s Municipal Code.

Builders, Architects, Engineers, and other industry professionals from a wide range of experience and perspectives are invited to attend this informative workshop, provide input, and help with the development of updates to Title 17 of the City’s Municipal Code (Building Ordinance) to coordinate with the adoption of the 2019 California Building Code by the State.

Building Code Workshop
Wednesday, August 14, 2019
6:00 PM
Paso Robles City Council Chamber
1000 Spring Street, Paso Robles

Every three years the State of California adopts updated Building Codes with amendments from a number of state agencies including the Division of the State Architect, Housing and Community Development, and the Office of the State Fire Marshall. According to Devon Kuhnle, Development Services Coordinator, significant changes to the state’s code include increased building energy efficiency and mandatory residential photovoltaic solar requirements. The 2019 California Building Code will be effective state-wide on January 1, 2020.

To coordinate with adoption of the new Building Code by the state, the City Council will consider updates to the City’s Building Ordinance. This is necessary to ensure that the City’s local amendments remain clear and enforceable. With specific findings, based on local conditions, the City may adopt building standards that are more restrictive than those adopted by the state. The City may also adopt administrative codes that are reasonably necessary to ensure efficient local administration of the codes. The City may not adopt building standards that are less restrictive than those adopted by the state.

Questions about the Building & Fire Code Public Workshop should be directed to Brian Cowen, Building Official or Devon Kuhnle, Development Services Coordinator at (805) 237-3850, or by email at bcowen@prcity.com or dkuhnle@prcity.com.
