Paso Robles City Council Votes to Proceed with Appointment of an Interim City Manager
PASO ROBLES, CA – Mayor Steve Martin has announced the City of Paso Robles will engage the services of an interim City Manager while a replacement for the current one continues. Current City Manager, Tom Frutchey, announced his resignation in November 2020, with a planned departure in February. but he has remained in his position at the request of the Council as the search for a replacement ensued. The Council, fourteen community members and city staff executives have participated in screening candidates.
“We have extended the search for a new City Manager,” said Mayor Martin. “We have interviewed outstanding candidates, but don’t want to stop until we are sure we have found the best fit for the city.”
Martin said he expects the recruitment process will take another three to six months. He said a candidate for the interim position has been presented by Bill Avery and Associates and interviewed by the City Council. Contingent upon a background check and finalization of a temporary employment agreement, the candidate will be offered the interim position. The interim City Manager will be appointed in an open session of the City Council, as will the successful candidate for the permanent City Manager position. The Interim City Manager is anticipated to start in April.
