Recovery Planning

Communities across the Central Coast are facing severe economic hardships as we overcome this COVID-19 crisis, and economic relief is on the way.

Employers have had to furlough or lay off workers, and residents are without jobs and struggling to make ends meet. However, we are resilient, and we will get through these difficult economic challenges together.

The County of San Luis Obispo and REACH, formerly The Hourglass Project, are leading a regional economic relief effort in partnership with cities, chambers, and community partners. This coalition will take action to support the Central Coast’s economic recovery efforts.

Evictions, Mortgages & Utilities

Because of the COVID-19 crisis, many citizens have inquired about the status of rental eviction, mortgage payments and utility turn-offs. These are very real concerns now that so many of us are suffering monetary and job losses. Here is what is happening:

Rental evictions are temporarily prohibited. The ordinances adopted by the State and County, and upheld by the City of Paso Robles, prohibit eviction for inability to pay rent due to financial impacts related to COVID-19. Clarifications and guidelines here.

More than 400 banks, charter banks, and credit unions have agreed to give homeowners a 90-day moratorium on payment when unable to pay resulting from impacts of COVID-19.  Participating mortgage services will waive late fees, delay foreclosures and evictions and they won’t make negative reports to credit reporting agencies. See a full list of participating agencies here.

Critical utilities will not be shut off during the crisis. This includes internet service, telephone, power and water. For a list of utility providers and their policies regarding COVID-19, visit readyslo.org or call 805-543-2444. For Paso Robles utilities visit prcity.com/utilities or call 805-237-3996.

Food Assistance Resources

The County of San Luis Obispo is initiating a program to procure food and prescription medication for self-isolating seniors (65+), individuals with chronic medical conditions, or individuals required to self-isolate because they’ve been exposed or diagnosed with COVID-19 who do not have access to other means of procurement (e.g. family, friends, neighbors, caregivers, or other community organizations).

If you do not qualify for this program,
other programs may be available to assist you.

All local food distribution sites are listed on our website.

Face Covering Guidance

SLO County Public Health is recommending face coverings in certain situations.

Only health care workers and some first responders, and those who are sick should use medical-grade Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as surgical masks or N95 face masks.

Those who cannot maintain a safe six feet of distance from others outside of the home should wear a cloth face covering – such as a bandana or homemade cloth face covering – that does not obstruct breathing.

If you wear a cloth face covering in public, avoid touching it and be sure to clean it daily.

Wearing face coverings should be used in addition to, not instead of, staying home except for essential activities, washing your hands, maintaining a safe six feet of physical distance as much as possible when you are outside of the home, and

If you’re sick with COVID-19 symptoms, stay home. Call your healthcare provider or nearest urgent care to get tested, and follow their instructions.

Building Continues, with a Twist

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the City continues to provide essential services. While City offices are closed for in-person transactions, city staff are working hard to continue offering all of the services our community depends on, via phone, email, and through the City website at www.prcity.com.

The Paso Robles Community Development Department is using a little technology and a lot of ingenuity to ensure that critical housing construction and other projects progress. Full permitting and plan check services are still available. Full inspection services are still available including Building, Grading, Encroachments and Fire. Inspectors are doing video inspections where possible and site visits where video is impractical.

Virtual Easter Eggs in front of PRPD

Virtual Easter Egg Hunts

Even though we are unable to visit the Easter Bunny in the Downtown City Park this year, we can still come together in Main Street's new virtual Easter Egg Hunt (via Facebook) with the Easter Bunny leading the way! He's asked us for his help in hunting for eggs! For those interested, as a thank you for your help, he's offered to deliver a candy to your porch/front door after the hunt is over! Details

Virtual Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt
A locally-organized Facebook egg-stravaganza. Paso residents are encouraged to make large 2-3 foot eggs, decorate them and place them in a visible place in front of their homes. Egg hunters can drive around and take photos of the eggs, track how many they have found and turn in their results by April 12th at 5 pm for a chance to win a prize. Paso PD is participating!
