Rumor ControlThe County of San Luis Obispo affirms that its phased reopening, or loosening of current restrictions, is predicated on the California Governor returning local control to counties.
This clarification is needed after NBC’s Today Show aired a story that spotlighted San Luis Obispo County and incorrectly reported that the California county plans to reopen on May 1. This is false.
County officials state that they will be ready to implement the plan when the Governor returns authority back to the counties.

Shelter at Home ClarificationsCounty officials clarified on Wednesday that effective immediately the following businesses and activities can operate under the current Shelter at Home orders as long as individuals observe the Public Health Department’s recommendations for physical distancing, face coverings, and hygiene: - Houses of worship can have drive-in services, but physical passing or sharing of items is highly discouraged.
- Janitorial and housekeeping services can operate.
- Retail stores that sell fabric can operate. This will allow community members to make face coverings.
- Drive-in theaters can operate.
This guidance is based on data – our case count and hospitalization trends for the last 14 days have slowed, and officials are taking that information into account when updating guidance and recommendations.
