Demand for testing has dramatically increased in SLO CountyLow-risk, asymptomatic residents should not try to get tested. Those at high-risk of contracting COVID-19 should get tested, including anyone with symptoms, works in a high-risk environment, is an essential worker, lives or works in a congregate setting (jail, care facility, dorm, etc.), has had close contact with a known case, or has received a direct recommendation from Public Health to get tested. In order to offset testing costs, the County Public Health Lab will now bill related fees to medical insurance, effective August 7. People getting tested will not bear any of the costs.

Third and fourth SLO County residents have died due to COVID-19The 61-year-old and 52-year-old patients had significant underlying health conditions and were living in long-term care facilities. These losses are a reminder that we must do all we can to protect those who are most vulnerable. They matter and they are important.
People at higher risk should stay home as much as possible. All residents, regardless of risk factors, should take precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Older adults and individuals with health conditions (such as lung or heart disease, diabetes, or a compromised immune system) are at higher risk of developing serious illness from COVID-19. While risk increases with age among adults, younger adults and those without chronic health conditions have also faced serious illness and hospitalization.

Testing Locations in Paso RoblesUntil more pop-up testing sites can be added in North County, there is currently a two-week wait for testing through the County. Appointments can be made here. We are working on pop-up testing locations in Paso Robles and Morro Bay for July. Check back soon for details. Residents who have made appointments but cannot attend are strongly urged to cancel appointments so that others can use them. At this time, asymptomatic residents are not encouraged to get tested unless they have potential exposure as an essential worker or through a congregate care facility. Those who would like to be tested sooner are encouraged to do so with their primary care physician or at two locations in North County:
