Temporary Cooling CenterThe City of Paso Robles has set up a temporary cooling center in the Centennial Park gym located at 600 Nickerson Drive for the duration of the forecasted heat wave August 14-17 and possibly longer. It will be open from 11AM to 7PM to those without access to shelter or air conditioning. Pets will not be allowed inside the gym, local veterinary clinics are offering to shelter the pets of those using the cooling center.

Short Term Rental Ordinance Annual ReviewThe Paso Robles City Council will receive its first annual status review of the Paso Robles Short Term Rental Ordinance at its regular meeting on August 18 at 6:30PM. The purpose is to review operations, revenues and expenses, complaints and COVID-19 related issues. Council may consider implementing a tracking dashboard and initiating compliance letters for unpermitted rentals. Agenda

COVID-19 Small Business Grant ProgramThe City of Paso Robles is using federal CARES Act funds to create a COVID-19 Small Business Grant Program. The program will provide one-time micro-grants of up to $10,000 for local businesses in Paso Robles to help meet immediate funding needs due to COVID-19 impacts and to retain the local workforce and businesses to support economic recovery. Sales Tax Measure on BallotAt its August 4 meeting, City Council approved adding a sales tax measure to the November ballot. Measure J-20, if approved by a majority of Paso Robles voters, will establish a 1.0% supplemental transaction and use tax (sales tax) within the City, which is equivalent to 1¢ for every $1.00 spent on taxable goods. Beechwood Specific Plan Passes Planning CommissionThe Planning Commission, after much thoughtful discussion, approved the project at its August 11 meeting. City Council will begin the public hearing process for the plan at its September 1 meeting.
The 235-acre site is located in the southeast corner of the city; south of Meadowlark, east of Virginia Peterson Elementary, and north of Creston Road.
If approved by City Council, the project would result in the development of 911 residential units, 5.6 acres of commercial and mixed-use development; an 8-acre public park; and 20 acres of open space. Project details

Temporary Safe Camp and ParkingIn order to respond to high fire risk conditions and to follow guidance for providing shelter to those experiencing homelessness during the pandemic, the City is providing an emergency, temporary camping area with individual tents and basic services, in hopes of relocating homeless individuals currently living in encampments in the Salinas riverbed to a safer, lower fire-hazard area in which security and basic services can be provided. SLO County COVID-19 StatisticsThe San Luis Obispo County Public Health Office is tracking COVID-19 statistics and shares the information on their website. Efforts are being made to gather demographic information, which should be available soon. Case counts are updated once daily, Monday-Friday. Data posted each day are always preliminary and subject to change as individual case investigations are completed.

Wayfinding Signage Being InstalledThe city has begun installing wayfinding signage to help visitors and new residents find their way to our local attractions. The project began planning in 2017, was approved in 2019 and the signs were being fabricated when the pandemic hit. City Council opted to allow the wayfinding signage project to proceed to help assist in economic recovery. Details

Grant Funding for Fiber NetworkCouncil approved the submittal of a FY 2020 Economic Development Administration CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant application to install optical fiber cable conduit and fiber on over 13 linear miles of City roads. Details
