State Extends Stay at Home OrderThe state's Stay at Home order will remain in place throughout the Southern California region (which for COVID purposes includes SLO County) for the foreseeable future as COVID-19 patients continue to flood the region’s healthcare system.
The Southern California and San Joaquin regions are both reporting 0% ICU capacity, while SLO County has a roughly 33% ICU capacity remaining at the moment. If an individual hospital in a county or region reports implementing crisis care, other hospitals will be asked to share resources or change operations.
State officials expect to see another surge in new infections in the coming weeks, stemming from gatherings and travel over the winter holidays. More details

Salinas River CleanupBetween December 17th and 23rd the Paso Robles Police Department CAT team facilitated a trash cleanup in the Salinas Riverbed. A local company was contracted and removed over 24,000 pounds of trash from the riverbed at a cost of $16,000. Safe New Year's IdeasStaying home and celebrating with the people you live with or celebrating virtually with loved ones is the safest choice this year. Do not attend large gatherings this year. If you do host or attend a small gathering, everyone can take steps to make celebrating the New Year safer.
If you host a celebration - Talk with guests ahead of time to set expectations for celebrating together.
- Limit the number of guests.
- Keep celebrations outdoors, if possible.
- If indoors, open windows and doors. Use a window fan to blow air out, which will pull fresh air in through the open windows.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and items between use.
- Have guests bring their own food, drinks, plates, cups, and utensils.
- Have extra unused masks available for your guests and encourage everyone to wear them inside and outside.
- Keep background music volume low so guests don’t need to shout.
- It’s okay if you decide to postpone or cancel your gathering. Do what’s best for you.
- Fun NYE ideas

"The city library made the processes extremely easy for the school district, and we are thrilled that so many more students now have access to more resources to support their education and recreational reading."
