How to Get Back to the Red TierIn order to move into the Red Tier and reopen more schools and businesses, we need to meet 4 public health metrics - case count, positivity rate, health equity and testing. SLO County is currently meeting 3 out of the 4 metrics, but our case counts are still too high. Once our case count gets below 7 new cases per day we can move into the Red Tier. Residents can help get our kids back to school and businesses opened by following the public health guidelines - limit gatherings, stay 6 feet apart, wear a face covering and wash your hands frequently. Super Bowl SafelyCounty health officials are asking residents to celebrate the Super Bowl safely this year. We saw a surge in cases after Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year. We cannot afford another surge after the Super Bowl. Let’s not fumble this. Celebrate virtually or with your household this year. Those who choose to gather are urged to do so responsibly “like a B.O.S.S.,” by keeping social gatherings Brief, Outside, Small and Symptom-free. It is also important to stay six feet away from others, frequently wash your hands, avoid shared food and beverages, and wear a face covering.

Possible School ReopeningsElementary schools (grades K-6) that did not already open while were in the red tier and stay open since have the option to increase in-person instruction now that the SLO County’s COVID-19 case rate has fallen below 25 cases per 100,000. School changes will include smaller class sizes, increased cleaning and disinfection, handwashing stations, ventilation upgrades, mask wearing, and regular staff testing. Not all schools will choose to reopen, they must consult with staff, parents, and community organizations before deciding to offer in-person services. Schools serving 7-12 grade that had not already started in-person services when our county was in the Red Tier previously, may be eligible once our county returns to the Red Tier again.

Eviction ProtectionCalifornians facing financial hardship because of the COVID-19 pandemic will be protected from eviction through June 30 as long as they pay part of their rent under an emergency bill signed on Friday. The bill provides eviction protection for tenants who pay at least 25% of their rent through June and provides $2.6 billion in federal funds for rent subsidies that will help pay most past-due rent by low-income tenants dating back to last April. Mortgage AssistanceTenants in California have protections from eviction under state and federal law, as well as under local laws in some cities and counties. This page describes protections under two new state laws: the Tenant, Homeowner, and Small Landlord Relief and Stabilization Act of 2020 (AB 3088), which took effect on August 31, 2020; and the COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act (SB 91), which took effect on February 1, 2021. SB 91 makes available financial assistance to qualified landlords and tenants for a tenant’s unpaid rent during the 13-month period between March 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021. Find more mortgage help and how to get it on the state's Housing page.
