New Assistant City ManagerOn March 1, the City swore in its new Assistant City Manager, Chris Huot. Most recently, Mr. Huot served as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Bakersfield, CA, where he oversaw a staff of 1,800. Mr. Huot began his nearly 14-year local government career in 2008 as a Marketing and Event Specialist within the Economic and Community Development Department for the City of Bakersfield. Chris lives in Paso Robles with his family and is loving his new job so far.

Police Department Annual ReportOn Tuesday, March 15, during the regular City Council meeting, Police Chief Damian Nord will present the 2021 Annual Report from the Police Department with an update on PD operations in Paso Robles for 2021, a review of crime statistics since 2017 and how our calls for service and staffing compare to other Central Coast communities. Live Fire TrainingOn Monday, March 21, the Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services Department will be performing a live fire training exercise at 3061 Linne Road. This training is the culmination of a five-week intensive in-house fire academy. Smoke may be visible in the surrounding area. Details

Outdoor Dining WorkshopThe City is holding a public workshop on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 3-5 PM to discuss ideas for permanent outdoor dining options in Paso Robles, which may include parklets. The workshop is being hosted by the Outdoor Dining Ad Hoc committee which was created in response to requests from residents and business owners to develop guidelines for permanent outdoor dining. Short Term Rental WorkshopThe community is encouraged to attend a public workshop about the City’s Short-Term Rental Ordinance. The workshop will begin at 6:30PM on Thursday, March 24, 2022, and will be conducted in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual participation options available. During the workshop, the Community Development Department will present an overview of the short-term rental program and issues identified in the 2+ years of its operation. The community will have an opportunity to provide input on what is working and what needs improvement. Details

Become a City Lifeguard Lifeguard Prerequisite Testing: Successful completion of the FREE prerequisite test provides swimmers with priority registration for the City’s Lifeguard Certification classes in April. Testing March 19 or April 2. Learn more here.
Lifeguard Certification Class: Are you 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or challenging career? Lifeguarding is a great place to start. Become certified and work for the City of Paso Robles this summer. Priority registration begins Saturday, April 2 for those who have passed the prerequisite testing, others may register starting Monday, April 4. Learn more here.

More Hot Spots Available! The Paso Robles City Library now has 42 Hot Spots for public check-out. Hot Spots are mobile units that can provide off-site Internet access for up to ten devices. They can be reserved through the Black Gold catalog with a valid, full-access Paso Robles City Library card for a 7-day period. These resources were supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the American Rescue Plan Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

Translation Services AvailableThe City of Paso Robles uses a translation service to help callers more quickly. The service allows City staff to easily connect to a third-party translation service via a conference call. The service has been in use by the Police Department for some time and is now available in all departments when callers access the City’s information line at 805.227.7276.
