Creston Road Detour

Creston Road will be closed at Lana and Oak Meadow the week of April 18 through April 22, 2022 during the day for sewer and water line construction. The daytime closure will be from 7:00am to 5:30 pm. This work is scheduled to coincide with Spring Break to minimize traffic impacts.  A detour will be implemented during the closure. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you in advance for your patience while the work is completed. Temporary Library Closure

The Paso Robles City Library will be closed on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23, 2022 for computer system upgrades. Wildfire Preparedness Workshop

The Paso Robles Fire Department is offering a Wildfire Preparedness Workshop on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 9:00 am until noon, at the Public Safety Center, 900 Park Street in downtown Paso Robles.  The program will teach residents about wildfire and how they can make their homes and neighborhoods safer. Residents living in hazardous wildfire areas are urged to attend.  There is no cost for this event. Senior Parking Permits

The City of Paso Robles will be offering 500 annual Senior Downtown Parking Permits starting March 28, 2022, to residents of Paso Robles. Seniors 65 and older can purchase a permit for $30. With the Senior Permit, seniors can park in any paid parking space Downtown without additional payment. Completed applications must be turned in before April 30. Public Workshop: Pickleball Complex

A public workshop to review revised design concepts for a Pickleball Court Complex in Sherwood Park will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, in the City Council Chamber, 1000 Spring Street.  All those interested in pickleball and recreation at Sherwood Park are encourage to attend and provide input.

Homelessness Services Discussions

The Paso Robles City Council has created a two-member ad hoc committee to review and make recommendations regarding the City’s existing memorandum of understanding with El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO). Councilmembers John Hamon and Steve Gregory will host 3-4 meetings to gather public input and report out to the full Council by May 17. Details

Niblick Bike/Pedestrian Survey

The City of Paso Robles is seeking input from residents on how, when and why they use Niblick Road, in hopes of getting a grant to build a protected bike and walking path on Niblick from Creston Road all the way to the end of the bridge. Surveys have been created to gather input to submit with the grant application in June. Surveys are available in English and Spanish:

Super Summer Sign Up Party

Save the date and join the Recreation Services team for advance swim lesson registration and summer recreation camp/class sign-ups on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centennial Park (600 Nickerson Drive).  During this special registration day, City aquatics staff will be available to answer questions and help parents select the perfect swim lessons for their child.  Four swim lesson sessions are planned with lessons available at both Centennial and Municipal Pools for children 6 months and older. Aqua Fit

This popular warm water exercise class has returned at the Municipal Indoor Pool with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning April 18.  Instructor Jennifer Loewen leads the group in low-impact exercises designed to improve both physical and mental health.  Set to music, this 45-minute class can help increase flexibility and range of motion while decreasing pain and stiffness.  Sessions: April 18-May 11 and May 16-June 8.  Please view online listings for class times and registration information.  $60/session. Ukulele Bootcamp

During this one day bootcamp, instructor Brian Schwartz will teach students the joy of learning a new skill in just a few short hours.  Saturday, April 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Centennial Park.  Ages 12 to adult.  $59 + $25 material fee includes a 100+ page workbook that contains an eight week online course to help student’s practice long after the class is over.  $10 discount for additional family members. Krav Maga class outdoors

Self Defense: Krav Maga

During this new class, students will learn this reality-based self-defense discipline that is practiced worldwide. This class will be taught in a fun, supportive and safe environment where students will learn the fundamental movements of Krav Maga, get some great exercise, and start to develop the building blocks of situational awareness. Ages 16+Tuesdays/Thursdays April 26-June 2 from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Centennial Park Gym.  $108 (15% additional family member discount available). Learn more and register here.

Art in the Library this Month

This April, Art in the Library presents the quilt collection of local resident Jeanne Aird. Using such techniques as block printing, Japanese shibori, painting, bleaching, dyeing, hand-stitching, and embroidery, Aird captures the colors and textures of nature, including her own backyard. Aird's creativity will be on display in the library the month of April.

With his single mother in jail, Sequoyah, a fifteen-year-old Cherokee boy, is placed in foster care. Sequoyah keeps mostly to himself until he meets seventeen-year-old Rosemary, a troubled artist who also lives with the family. Sequoyah and Rosemary bond but the precariousness of their lives and the scars of their pasts threaten to undo them both. The title is available in the catalog. Space is limited. Day of the Child/Day of the Book, also known as Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros, is a celebration of children, families, and reading held at the end of April each year. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.  This project is supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

Mondays: Craft Kit Pick Up Day! Every Monday, pick up one of our age-appropriate craft kits to do at home. All kits are available while supplies last.

Tuesdays: Try It! Tuesday Kit Pick Up Day! Every Tuesday, come on in to pick up one of our STEAM themed kits, which includes everything you need to complete the activity – even instructions! Try It! kits are great for all ages, but children under 6 will need help for most projects. Available while supplies last.

SLO County is currently facing an unprecedented shortage of available resource family homes to care for foster youth, 51 of whom are from Paso Robles. The two most pressing needs are for homes willing to provide short-term care as an emergency shelter home or homes willing to care for school-aged youth ages 6-18, especially teenagers. Translation Services Available

The City of Paso Robles uses a translation service to help callers more quickly. The service allows City staff to easily connect to a third-party translation service via a conference call. The service has been in use by the Police Department for some time and is now available in all departments when callers access the City’s information line at 805.227.7276.
